2nd Dress

So, here's my attempt at another dress for Hannah, slightly more difficult than the first. It's not my first choice in material, but I'm making a diaper bag and had tons of material left over so I used it to make the dress.

I think it turned out pretty well, but the underpants that go with it look huge to me. I suppose we'll see how they fit in a month or two. The material up top is going to be a flower for her hair as soon as I can find a button for the center of it.

Shopping Spree

I did some shopping today. Actually, it was more of a stock-up day. I got some groceries, but mostly I stocked up on bathroom supplies. I hate getting things like soap, deodorant, etc... because it's so stinking expensive. I've gotten several good coupons in the mail and in the newspaper lately and today I cashed in. Here's a picture of everything I purchased:

What the total cost was origionally: $206.93
My cost after coupons: $135.82

It's still expensive, but I feel pretty good about saving $70. Now, we're good to go for a while.

St Patrick's Celebrations

I'm not really into St. Patrick's day, but I decided it would be fun to at least do something. So, in honor of the holiday I made green alfredo sauce. It tasted good, but it was kind of weird eating it - I felt like it had gone bad or something. Also, I thought it was a really good excuse to make a dessert. I tried an ice cream cake for the first time ever. Here's the finished product.

Here's a picture that shows the inside so you can see the 3 different layers to the cake.

It really wasn't very hard and it tasted yummy too.

9 Months

She's now been here longer than she was in my tummy. Crazy. Here are her 9 month stats:

Weight: 19 lb (55%)
Height: 28 in (70%)
Head: 17 in (30 %)

We also found out she has an ear infection which would explain some of the past few nights. We were blaming her crying on teething, but I guess it was her ears. Anyway, she's on antibiotics, so we're hoping for a better night sleep. Here are a few pictures of her.

This is just a sign saying hello to Thailand.

She's always going from sitting to her stomach. She looks like she's about to crawl, but she's been this way for over a month now, so we're not holding our breath. I kind of like her staying put.

Kitchen Mess

I really don't understand how a few basic things like

-baking bread
- doing the prep work for dinner
- making baby food
can make such a big mess.

Luckily, the little one took a good nap and I had 2 free hands to clean the mess up. I think that looks soo much better, and the smell of bread baking in the oven...YUM! Definitely worth the mess.

Unfortunately, now it's time to actually do the cooking for dinner. :D

Sewing

I've been in a sewing mood lately and it's a good thing, too. I figure I need to make sure I really know how to sew before my mom leaves because I always come running to her to fix my mistakes. I decided I would start with a simple dress for Hannah. If I start simple and have success I'll be much more likely to move on to a more difficult pattern. So, here's the SIMPLE dress I made for her. There was no zipper and not even real sleeves. The material was cheap and the easiest thing I could find to work with.

It went pretty smoothly - I did everything on my own. The only problem was when I read the directions wrong and cut the main dress piece in half, so there's a seam down the middle, but oh well. Other than that I was pretty happy with it. Now...I'm thinking something with a zipper for the next project.
