Surviving

Last week was one crazy week.  My sister and her little guy came to visit along with my parents.  We tried to do a few fun things, but spent most of the week packing, cleaning, defending dissertations, graduating, then more packing and cleaning.  What fun!!

We got everything loaded and made the trek here to Utah.  We thought we were traveling pretty light, but it felt like we had a ton of stuff while we were unloading.  2 days later we have most things organized, except the stuff to go into storage....it's still sitting in a messy array on the family room floor.

Amid the chaos of family visiting my phone decided to permanently die.  So, I have been without a phone for about a week.  I really don't use it that much, but last week it was a major inconvenience.  I am happy to report I now have a functioning phone again.  Hooray!!  Now that I have it, I don't feel like I really need it much....haha.  Anyway, if I have not returned calls or texts I'm really sorry - I'm not being rude, I promise I just didn't get them.

Basically, we are surviving.  I still feel unorganized and exhausted (majorly exhausted), but we actually have a decent homemade dinner...and we might have time to make a salad to go with it.  I'd say that means things are looking up!

She Did It

Usually Hannah wants help folding her blankets and making her bed....but this morning she wanted to do it all by herself....oh darn!!  Here's the final product:

I'm thinking someone needs to be folding her blankets all on her own from now on....:D

Reading Time

I was in the kitchen finishing up some dinner prep while the girls were waiting for me to come read.  Sofia was being impatient, so Hannah took it upon herself to read to Sofia.

Playing Doctor

The girls like to take turns going to the Doctor.  Usually they bring their dolls to me, but this day they were taking turns visiting the doctor themselves.

I believe Hannah was checking Sofia's foot and then giving her a shot in the leg

Laundry Fun

Who knew a piece of plastic could be so much fun?!

Whatever entertains them while I get the mound of clothes folded, right?!

April Photo a Day

I came across a photo-a-day challenge for the month of April.  I decided to try it out and get back into taking more pictures.  I missed more days than I remembered to take pics, but here's what I ended up with.

April 1 - fun (fun feeding her doll...after lots of reminders that we only pretend feed her.)

April 2 - jump (Me jumping for joy because I actually got a freezer meal ready for when it's moving time.)

April 6 - chore ( fixing the hinges on our kitchen door)

April 10 - three (three silly faces)

April 12 - brand (holding up the Target bag while sporting her new Target swim suit)

April 15 - number (the number of our hotel room at Legoland).

April 20 - in my town....(Festival of Books!)

April 22 - something I enjoy (naptime!!)

April 24 - grateful for....(Hannah enjoying 'preschool' activities)

April 25 - hidden (my check off lists for moving prep)

Some Things I've learned

I have been tired and just haven't felt well the past couple of months.  Here are a few things I've learned as a result:

* Sleep is important
* We don't have to have extravagant meals every night.  In fact the kids seem to prefer the simpler ones the most.
* If the floor doesn't get swept at night, it will happen in the morning.
* Those deeper cleaning tasks (the floorboards, behind the furniture, etc...) can wait another month.
* No one will notice except me (and maybe my mom, but she isn't here!)
* It's okay for Hannah to play on the iPad for a few minutes if it means I can take a shower or work on dinner, or maintain sanity!
* It is our memories and relationships with people that matter a lot more than what we get done.
* Hannah can make her own bed when she is motivated.
* James is very adept at making his own lunch if I didn't mange to get to it.
* He is also able/willing to help out around the house when I need it.
* I will never get done as much as I want.
* There will always be something that needs to be done and I will probably never fel like I have tackled everything I want.....and that is okay.
* Did I mention sleep is important?
