2nd Dress

So, here's my attempt at another dress for Hannah, slightly more difficult than the first. It's not my first choice in material, but I'm making a diaper bag and had tons of material left over so I used it to make the dress.

I think it turned out pretty well, but the underpants that go with it look huge to me. I suppose we'll see how they fit in a month or two. The material up top is going to be a flower for her hair as soon as I can find a button for the center of it.

Shopping Spree

I did some shopping today. Actually, it was more of a stock-up day. I got some groceries, but mostly I stocked up on bathroom supplies. I hate getting things like soap, deodorant, etc... because it's so stinking expensive. I've gotten several good coupons in the mail and in the newspaper lately and today I cashed in. Here's a picture of everything I purchased:

What the total cost was origionally: $206.93
My cost after coupons: $135.82

It's still expensive, but I feel pretty good about saving $70. Now, we're good to go for a while.

St Patrick's Celebrations

I'm not really into St. Patrick's day, but I decided it would be fun to at least do something. So, in honor of the holiday I made green alfredo sauce. It tasted good, but it was kind of weird eating it - I felt like it had gone bad or something. Also, I thought it was a really good excuse to make a dessert. I tried an ice cream cake for the first time ever. Here's the finished product.

Here's a picture that shows the inside so you can see the 3 different layers to the cake.

It really wasn't very hard and it tasted yummy too.

9 Months

She's now been here longer than she was in my tummy. Crazy. Here are her 9 month stats:

Weight: 19 lb (55%)
Height: 28 in (70%)
Head: 17 in (30 %)

We also found out she has an ear infection which would explain some of the past few nights. We were blaming her crying on teething, but I guess it was her ears. Anyway, she's on antibiotics, so we're hoping for a better night sleep. Here are a few pictures of her.

This is just a sign saying hello to Thailand.

She's always going from sitting to her stomach. She looks like she's about to crawl, but she's been this way for over a month now, so we're not holding our breath. I kind of like her staying put.

Kitchen Mess

I really don't understand how a few basic things like

-baking bread
- doing the prep work for dinner
- making baby food
can make such a big mess.

Luckily, the little one took a good nap and I had 2 free hands to clean the mess up. I think that looks soo much better, and the smell of bread baking in the oven...YUM! Definitely worth the mess.

Unfortunately, now it's time to actually do the cooking for dinner. :D

Sewing

I've been in a sewing mood lately and it's a good thing, too. I figure I need to make sure I really know how to sew before my mom leaves because I always come running to her to fix my mistakes. I decided I would start with a simple dress for Hannah. If I start simple and have success I'll be much more likely to move on to a more difficult pattern. So, here's the SIMPLE dress I made for her. There was no zipper and not even real sleeves. The material was cheap and the easiest thing I could find to work with.

It went pretty smoothly - I did everything on my own. The only problem was when I read the directions wrong and cut the main dress piece in half, so there's a seam down the middle, but oh well. Other than that I was pretty happy with it. Now...I'm thinking something with a zipper for the next project.

Oh Where Oh Where did Hannah Go?

This is where I set her....

This is where she ended up...

For not being able to crawl, she sure gets around.

8 Months

Here are some 8 month photos. Not a whole lot has changed. She sits up and can now entertain herself for longer periods of time. Hooray! She's sleeping better at night and goes down for naps easier during the day. Pretty much, she's just getting easier and more fun all the time. She's not crawling, but she does lots of push-ups and gets up on her knees.

Isn't the chub pretty cute?

Mr Potato Head

I've thought about making some felt toys for Hannah to play with when she's a little older. On one of my favorite blogs, Make it and Love it, I found a felt Mr. Potato Head. So, I decided to give it a try. Here he is with boy attachments...

and girl attachments...

Kind of fun. It was pretty easy and cost about $4.

STINKer Pants

It's not unusual for Hannah to tinkle in the bathtub - I've almost come to expect it. So, it was no real surprise when she did it today. However, a few minutes later I was just starting to wash her hair as the started to make the face. I knew exactly what was coming and tried to get her out, but I was too late. She then pooped in the bathtub. She's done this before, but it still disgusts me. Anyway, I was able to finish bathing her and got her dressed without too much difficulty.
Less than an hour later I pick her up and she stinks. So, I go to change her diaper and find the worst blowout I have ever seen. She had poop down her legs and up her back all the way to her neck. As I pulled off her clothes it got in her hair. I'm trying to figure out what it was that I fed her yesterday because it STUNK!!! The wet wipes weren't getting the job done, so I took her to the bathroom for her first shower. She didn't care for it all that much, but I got her cleaned up and dressed yet again. Now, I'm happy to report that it has been over an hour and we haven't had any more incidents. I just don't understand how something so cute can stink so bad.
